Global warming is the greatest threat to life on earth. Entire populations and ecosystems are threatened by devastating impacts such as drought, heat waves, fires, floods, storms and rising sea levels.

Scientists have warned the United Nations that only urgent action can avert uncontrollable, runaway climate change.

Green solutions will create thousands of jobs and build a strong economy.

To preserve our environment and ensure a livable world for our children, I call on Canadian politicians to support these KYOTOplus goals:

  • Set a national target to cut greenhouse gas emissions at least 25 per cent from 1990 levels by 2020.
  • Implement an effective national plan to reach this target and help developing countries to reduce their emissions and adapt to climate change.
  • Adopt a bold, strengthened second phase of the Kyoto Protocol at the pivotal United Nations Climate Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, December 2009.

The Government of Canada must act NOW to make climate change our highest priority.

We apologize, but the selected Survey is currently unavailable.

Demand politicians stop wasting precious time and start urgent action against global warming. Join thousands of people like you who are already part of the KYOTOplus campaign.

Canada is the only country to renounce its Kyoto commitment and break its promise to the world. Today, its total greenhouse gas emissions are approximately 30% higher than the Kyoto target!

Canada has a golden opportunity to restore its tarnished reputation as a climate change laggard at a United Nations meeting later this year.

In December 2009, Kyoto countries will sign a new agreement.

What will Canada do? Vote to strengthen and extend the Kyoto Treaty? Or continue to be Kyoto's "Colossal Fossil"?

The petition and its signatures will be taken to the United Nations climate conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Nature Canada is one of more than 60 organizations taking part in the KYOTOplus campaign.

Please help maintain the integrity of this petition and only sign once. If you have already signed on with another organization, we thank you for your support.
